Navigating the New Residential Parking Pass Program in Dilworth and Wilmore

If you live in Dilworth or Wilmore, you've probably noticed the new signage - or the new competition for a spot in front of your own house. The Residential Parking Permit (RPP) pilot program is now active in both neighborhoods, and it's worth understanding how it actually works.

Why the program exists.

Both neighborhoods sit close enough to Uptown, South End, and Bank of America Stadium that daily commuters, construction crews, and event traffic were increasingly parking on residential streets - leaving homeowners and their guests circling the block. The pilot program, part of Charlotte's broader Strategic Parking Plan, is designed to prioritize residents' access to parking in front of their own homes.

How it works.

Each pilot area is divided into a residential zone and a community zone.

In the residential zone, parking beyond two hours during designated times requires a permit. In Wilmore, that restriction also applies during stadium events.

In the community zone, visitors can pay to park for up to two hours, while permitted residents and businesses are exempt from the meter.

In Dilworth, Cleveland Avenue has shifted to a two-hour metered limit Monday through Saturday, 7am to 10pm.

What it costs.

Each address in the pilot zones can purchase up to six permits per year - the first for $35, with the option to add more up to a combined cost of $60. Permits are valid for one year from purchase.
